Botswana thrashes Ghana in world cricket league

Botswana won the toss and elected to field. Ghana scored 128 runs all out in 36 overs with the impressive Isaac Abogye lacking partners to stay the course.

Botswana started badly with vice captain Karabo Motlhanka and captain Karabo Modise at the crease. At lunch break, the team had managed to score 22 for three in eight overs. The experienced and youthful players, Denzil Sequeira and Waseem Tajbhay brought more energy to the game and changed the proceedings. The duo silenced the cheering Ghanaian fans with some impressive batting. Tajbhay got 35 runs, ably assisted by Faisal Rasheed with 28.

Hasantha Mudiyanselage scored the crucial two sixes in the 37th over that meant Botswana needed only four runs to win. Nabil Master was the man of the match with 17 runs and three wickets. In other games played on Saturday, Nigeria at  69 all out lost by three wickets to Fiji. Vanuatu proved too good for Germany winning by a handsome 101 runs. Vanuatu collected 200 all out while Germany got 99 all out.

The winner and runners up will join Kuwait, Jersey (UK), Argentina and Bahrain in World Cup Division Six whose matches will be held in Jersey from 21-28 July 2013. Meanwhile, the ICC has decided to do away with Division Seven and Eight meaning it is very crucial for countries to get promotion to Division Six.
