Delimitation creates council ward of 11,600 people

The Mogoditshane South Council Ward, previously known as Tsolamosese, with 11,607, people has become a hot potato in the Kweneng South East constituency where tribesmen believe the population is too large for a ward.

The threshold for a council ward is 4,614. The Mogodithane South (Tsolamosese) Council ward is made up of Mogoditshane Block 4,  and Mogoditshane  Block7. The Monitor understands that tribesmen  in the Kweneng  South East Constituency have made oral submissions to the Delimitation Commission during recent consultative meetings asking them to  subdivide the Mogoditshane South ward into two; as well as renaming  the former Block 7 ward  Lesirane as it has been traditionally called,  due to landmarks such as Lesirane Clinic and primary school.

The Monitor also understands that  Balete tribesmen in the constituency want another Kweneng South East ward, Gabane South east, with a population of 7,256 to have its size reduced so that a portion of it can go to the proposed Block 7 ward.According to information gathered by The Monitor the tribesmen in the Kweneng South East Constituency also  suggested to the Delimitation Commission to  merge the western side of Gaphatshwa with another portion of Metsimotlhabe to come up with a new council ward to be known as  Mogoditshane Block 9.

Metsimotlhabe  currently has 7,156 people. Gaphatshwa has a population of  9,683, but part of it falls under the Mmopane-Lentsweletau constituency. Area MP Mmoloki Raletobana was not reachable on his mobile over the weekend.
