89 Sue BDF For Allowances

The 89, whose case has already been heard once at the High Court, say they have documented evidence that retired BDF Commander Major General Tebogo Masire committed to pay them 30 percent monthly allowances in 2010, calculated according to each's basic salary.

They claim that the promises remained unfulfilled even by the time Masire retired in July this year, leaving their hopes in tatters. In their papers, the soldiers claim that when they approached the BDF the response they got was that the final decision on the matter lies with the Department of Public Service Management (DPSM).

Now they want the High Court to intervene and cause the BDF to pay them their long overdue allowances from the date of the promise, with interest.Meanwhile, a group of six BDF employees were recently reinstated to their jobs after they were fired under the retired BDF Commander. The six,  Gilbert Serema, Samuel Higgs Nkgare, Tidimalo Gulubane, Thabo Leon Jeremiah, Kagiso Mpolokang and Richard Singabatha, were reinstated recently after challenging their dismissal.
