Murder accused earns family's wrath

Dissenting voices from the family could be heard in court when the lawyer representing secondary school teacher, Gaone Molwalefe opposed an application by the state to have his client's bail revoked. Members of the family were visibly disgusted at the sight of Molwalefe,  his associates and family.

Defence attorney, Kole Kole vehemently opposed the attempt to revoke bail and after the court session elderly women from the family of the deceased cursed and wished Molwalefe and his supporters bad things.'Le mo moletlong re a lo bona. Mme fela modimo o tlaa nna le lona. Motlha mongwe mongwe go tlaa bo go itumetse rona,' said one elderly woman who was visibly angry at the fact that Molwalefe is enjoying his freedom despite the death.

Molwalefe enjoyed the company of friends and relatives as he walked free from court. The accused was granted bail by Kanye Magistrate early this month,  a few days after the crime was committed. Molwalefe faces charges of murder, attempted murdered and arson. It is alleged that on September 28 at or near Sedudu ward, Moshupa village, he murdered Grace Matlapeng.  Matlapeng is said to have met her death when Molwalefe allegedly set fire to the house she and other family members were sleeping in. Molwalefe is charged with attempted murder on allegations that the same fire nearly killed Neelo Kgosikwena, Kealeboga Magwadi and Evelyn Matlapeng. The fire destroyed property worth over P13,000. Despite the serious charges, Kanye Magistrate Bosele Busang freed Molwalefe but the state wants the magistrate to cancel bail arguing that their investigations are still going on.
