Marriage in wedding jest again

Speaking to multitudes of Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) followers on the eve of the Mahalapye West and Tshikinyega by-elections here last Friday, Khama said his wedding would finally take place on December 12, 2012.

'Although I have not as yet found the woman of my choice, I am certain about the wedding date,' he said, eliciting a mixture of happiness and disbelief. 'I invite every one of you to attend.'  What brought out the jester in the President was the magic date of 12/12/12. He said he was aware that he was racing against time because he only had November to find the right woman and appealed to all present to join in the search for Botswana's First Lady. However, unlike before, he did not specify the physical attributes of his ideal woman.

'The other time when I hinted that I didn't want the Botlhogile Tshireletso type, I incurred the wrath of some people,' Khama said, referring to the Local Government Assistant Minister who is of rather ample proportions. While some believed that one of the world's most eligible bachelors by far could soon find his better half, one woman standing near yours truly was not even nearly fooled.  'Khama will never marry,' she said matter-of-factly under her breath. The President was jesting at the same rally where BDP secretary general Mpho Balopi announced the suspension of Duma FM radio personality, Donald Rakgare, for allegedly bringing the BDP into disrepute. However, unlike Khama, Balopi was speaking in earnest.
