It was the 19-year old's fourth consecutive win in as many races he has done on home soil this year. Just the previous weekend he won two races under the banner of the Botswana Cycling Association (BCA). He won the BCA 14 kilometres time trial held in Rasesa before winning another 60km rally in Kopong.
Ayuso, who is a professional cyclist having trained intensively Spain won yesterday race with a time of 3:22:41 averaging a speed of 29.60km/hr. His two closest competitors Victor Potgietor and Christopher Moloi arrived almost two minutes after him with times of 3:24:40 and 3:24:43 respectively. The cyclists have kept riding in a group on the initial ride to Kanye with no one taking any significant lead riding against a heavy side wind. They maintained their pack for the first 30km of the return journey but Ayuso, Potgietor and Moloi slowly pulled out of the pack with about 20km to go just after Lekgolobotlo turn off.
Ayuso would pull away from the two with about 8km to go just when they entered Ranaka. He opened a 400 metres lead and was clear of them five kilometres to the finish in front of the Police College in Otse. With the chasing pack now tiring on the uphill curve towards the finish line, it became evident that the teenager was up for another victory.
Speaking to Sport Monitor after the race, Ayuso said it was a very tough race and the riders made it even tougher for themselves by working out together. He said he was pushing hard for the final five kilometres of the race that he described as very difficult as there was a lot of headwind going downhill as he rode uphill. He said everyone was doing their best hence he had to push himself a bit harder to pull away. Talking about his victories, he said he has put a lot of hard work in his training and the victories are there to prove that. 'I train very hard, you need to put in a lot of work if you want to stay at the top,' he said.He said although the competition is not that tough locally, the cyclists are doing their best considering the conditions they are under. The youngster has won several races in South Africa and Spain. After yesterday race, he left for Durban, South Africa where he has been invited to a pro-cycling competition next weekend. He said he would come back to Botswana to complete the last race of the national championship on November 24th.
