UB academics promoted

They are Dr Motsoptse Modisi who becomes Associate Professor of Geology, Dr Joyce Mathangwane as Associate Professor of English and Dr Stephen Mutula who is elevated to Associate Professor of Library and Information Studies. The promotions are in effect.

Both Professor Modisi and Professor Mathangwane are citizens of Botswana. Professor Mutula is a Kenyan national.

Professor Modisi joined the University as a Lecturer in Geology in 1985. His career started at the Department of Geological Surveys in mineral exploration and monitoring of prospecting activities. His research interests are in structural geology and tectonics.

Professor Modisi holds a doctorate in geology.
Professor Mathangwane joined the University of Botswana as a staff development fellow in 1986. Her research interests are phonology and morphology of Bantu languages, socio-linguistics, historical linguistics and English as a second language. Professor Mathangwane holds PhD in linguistics.

Dr Mutula joined the University in 1999 as a lecturer. Before he came to Botswana he worked at the University of Nairobi, Kenya and the United States International University in Kenya. His research interests information technology. Professor Mutula holds a PhD in information science. 

UB recently announced that another citizen of Botswana, Sisai Mpuchane has been appointed full professor of biology.
