BFA confirms Umbro deal

In a media statement, BFA chief executive officer, Duncan Kgame said the association has agreed a three-year deal that will see the United Kingdom based company dress national teams until 2015.

'The appointment of Umbro, the world's football tailoring brand, marks the culmination of a tender process undertaken in 2011 in response to which Umbro submitted a bid that, following adjudication, was judged as the best,' reads the statement.

BFA said Umbro had agreed to supply all national teams from Under-17 upwards, including men and women, with technical equipment and leisure wear for the duration of the contract. Kgame said details of the deal would be announced at the sponsorship launch on a date to be announced.

There was no immediate reaction from Puma, which had also tendered while All Kasi director, Ludo Kemoeng said he was not aware of the new development and therefore would not comment.  Reports from BFA are that Puma had proposed to supply kits only to the senior team, while All Kasi had suggested partnering with the soccer body, leaving Umbro at the forefront.

The announcement comes in the same week BFA president, David Fani confirmed that he was seeking a fresh four-year mandate. The mother body goes to the polls in July during its biennial general assembly. Fani faces BFA legal advisor, Tebogo Sebego for the top job.
