BOFEPUSU petitions govt for dismissed nurses

In a letter handed to the ministry's Deputy Permanent Secretary Ontlametse Mokopakgosi recently, BOFEPUSU says that workers are 'extremely disturbed' that more than 400 people who were dismissed unfairly are unable to provide for their families.

BOFEPUSU condemns what it describes as 'discriminatory and selective employment process' that left out a 'quality workforce' cadre when government re-employed. 'BOFEPUSU demands that you take responsibility and immediately return these workers to their workplaces.'

The union also condemns the 'harsh and repressive' conditions under which the 2,415 re-employed civil servants allegedly work. 'We demand immediate removal of the unbearable working conditions extended to the re-employed workers,' the letter reads.

BOFEPUSU demands re imbursement of re-employed nurses who were transferred from their duty stations but were denied transport, forcing them to hire trucks against the DPSM policy of transporting workers on first employment. 

Other challenges the union notes include performance of non-nursing duties, selective training and non-progression in the health education cadre. Receiving the letter, Mokopakgosi said she would pass it on to the Permanent Secretary, Dr Kolaatamo Malefho, who was out of the country at the time.
