Businessman shot dead in Phakalane

Harry Thembo, who owned an information technology company, was allegedly shot in the head and finished off with an axe on his way home from The Boulevard Bar at Phakalane mall.

His assailant (s) left him in a trench where he was found in the wee hours of Sunday. His relatives told Mmegi that the incident did not seem to be a robbery as his belongings were found at the scene.

Broadhurst Station Commander, Superintendent Goratwang Odumetsi confirmed that the man was found dead on Sunday morning by the Phakalane circle. He said that they will know the cause of death after a postmortem examination has been conducted.

Odumetsi said he could not say whether the deceased's belongings were found at the scene or not as that could compromise their investigations. He also ruled out the involvement of security agents saying that the deceased was not on the police's wanted list.

At this stage, he said, he could not even reveal if his investigating officers found any evidence of firearm use at the scene. 'I can only confirm that he was injured,' said Odumetsi. He noted that the incident was the first of its kind to happen in Phakalane.
