Billy noted that the termination of employment was seen to be the right thing because they were no longer trustworthly. The mayor also announced that the department of mines has secured funds to the tune of P23.9 million for the rehabilitation of some old mine operations in Monarch area. 'The rehabilitation project is expected to cover 26 shafts and collapsed underground mine workings, as well as 14 mine tailings dumps, all within an area of approximately 30 hectares. The proposed rehabilitation work is intended to address environmental problems and make safe open holes that are remnants of old mine shafts and collapsed underground mine workings,' he said.
Billy added that while the government is injecting a lot of money into ARV programmes, many more HIV positive patients miss their appointments and even default treatment due to the perception that they have been cured. 'We have reports from the community that some patients are throwing drugs away either in the bush or in other public places.
Efforts are being made to intensify follow ups and reinforce adherence counseling to avoid massive emergency of resistance to the very limited treatment options we have'.
He said that male circumcision is one of the recent preventative strategies which have been proven to be efficient for as long as they are used together with other interventions.
