Serowe to host three-day district trade show

This will enable farmers, business community and the public will educate each other on various issues that affect development, Boyce Sekgoma, the show committee chairman and event coordinator, has told Mmegi.

The event will be held under the theme 'Mitigating the Effects of Climate Change Through Improved Agricultural Activities and Trade Promotion.' 'This month is International Environmental Month because global warming is an international challenge that needs to be addressed at all levels,' Sekgoma said. 'We urge big industries and manufacturers to ensure that their products and services are environment-friendly so as to take care of our environment because it holds the future for our children.' He disclosed that the community took the event from the government in 2010. 'This show is organised by the community to promote independence and stop relying on the government for every little thing,' he said. 'There will be different businesspeople and various other stakeholders who will be showcasing their products.'

He noted that the event was a platform for farmers, traders and service providers. NGOs, government departments, councils and parastatals would also participate.  A workshop to empower the youth with information on how to start their own businesses and business skills was on the cards. LEA, CEDA and PPADB were among organisation as key hosts of the workshop that has been slated for June 29-30.

'We have also invited the Sand Veldt Farmers Association to come and exhibit their cattle,' Sekgoma said.'Because they breed cattle of high quality so we want them to share information with other farmers on breeding.

'There will also be a competition where farmers with the best quality products will walk away with prize money, certificates and trophies.' In addition to cattle, there will be goats, sheep, chicken and bees. For entertainment, there will be a horse race at the Farmers Brigade where adults will be charged a P30 entrance fee and children P10.
