Plus-size women compete for beauty title

The event, which will take place at Maharaja Conference Centre, is expected to thrill the audiences who rarely see plus-sized women participate in beauty pageants. Eight contestants will compete for the title.

Thabang Sebowe, the organiser of the pageant, speaking to Showbiz says the contest will be one to remember.

Sebowe said: 'The idea to organise this type of pageant was motivated by the fact that only a certain type of woman competes in pageants; only thin women have the opportunity to walk on the ramp.  This is the first time the show will take place, but my intention is to make it an annual event.'

He added that the main objective of the event is to entartain people in a different way than they are used to.

He says the night will be dedicated to the plus-size women walking on the ramp and challenging the status quo of beauty. 'The part of the night I am most looking forward to is when the judges crown Miss Big Phat,' said Sebowe.

Miss Big Phat co-organiser, Clement Jackson, encourages people to attend the event, which he describes as a 'must see.'

He says plus-size women should embrace their God-given figures and be proud to flaunt them.

Jackson said he will perform with a live band at the event, as will a number of popular DJs.

The queen will walk away with a six-month training opportunity at Figures Modelling school, while the first princess will receive a four burner gas stove.

The second princess will walk away with a home theater system.

The pageant is sponsored by Rustic Magic salon, Figures Models Talent International and Cazabella Jewelleries.
