Credited as the country's top traditional music stable and a pioneer in the recording industry which gave rise to illustrious careers of many local stars Kgobola, the late Jony Kobedi, Machesa, Matsieng and many more, it thus makes sense that such a compilation should come from Ramco Records.
But while some of the artists featured in the album are from Ramco, executive producer Eric Ramogobya demonstrated his appreciation of good music, bringing in other musicians from various labels. The CD kicks off with Dithakga tsa mmino's Ditaola, a popular track that continues to charm everyone six years after its release.
One of the most underrated yet powerful local compositions, Semakaleng - by Matsipane and Motswedi band - has found its space in this album and it is bound to attract new attention, especially from those who missed the chance the last time around.
Mokorwana traditional dance group, itself a pioneer recording group, has found its space in this master copy. The group's track Maitshwaro - led by Shirley Mokoka - is among the favourites in the compilation. Ndingo Jowa's Nkwasha gives a listener that rare opportunity to have jazz going along with borankana, which is followed by Matsieng's controversial yet 'educative' number, Tlogela motokwane. Vetran folklore musician Stampore, who rose to prominence before recording studios could be built in this country as a popular feature on Radio Botswana's play lists and continues to thrive with the same songs, adds spice with his guitar in the track, Mahipihipi.
So if you are into local music, especially cultural music, then this record is for you. Then there is another compilation from the same stable which features the likes of General Ozzy, Nono Seile and the late Duncan Senyatso with his Kamponwane hit song.
