Councillors use lodge for official meetings

The council chairman, Patrick Manthe said that they have been at the lodge since Monday and would be completing their sessions tomorrow.

'We had to start our sessions and we had no choice but to look for a place,' he said, adding that it was a temporary arrangement, Yarona Lodge was found to be the most affordable as other places were expensive. 'We collected quotations and realised that this was what we could afford,' he said, adding that hiring a tent was even more exorbitant as it would cost about P14,000.

The council is paying P800 for the conference room per day, and is also paying for morning and afternoon tea for the 30 councillors.

The Thamaga-Mogoditshane Sub-District Council offices have moved from the Nkoyaphiri area where their lease expired last year in November. 'We had our lease with property owner renewed for just one month with the hope that our place would be completed by the end of the year, but it has not happened,' he said.

Manthe said that they have since moved offices (temporarily) to a different location along the Gaborone-Kanye road from where they used to rent offices in Nkoyaphiri.

The sub-district offices will be built opposite Mogoditshane Police Station, but there are no funds for the project.
