MC Maswe, real name, Thapelo Maleka, of Ramotswa, was worth the wait on a chilly Friday night as his reverberating music took many Zebras fans at the event by storm. As the cool breeze from the south blew northwards just before midnight, the Francistown-based music superstar transformed the sizzling island into a scene of yesteryear beats, SA's Soul Brothers-styled funk thanks to his own glorious vocals.
Singing along the MC Maswe's Zebras 4 Lyfe, a masterpiece in his latest album released towards the end of last year, the jubilant fans kept dancing for the rest of his performance as he led the way. MC Maswe, who started and ended his stage performance only dishing songs about the Zebras, turned a dance floor into a sea of blue as all the attendants wore their national team colours to show support.
He started his two-and-a-half hours performance with his anthem, Zebras 4 Lyfe, in his latest 12-track album, which was recorded by Dr Tawanda of Mega Boss Studios in Gaborone. Other songs from the album include Zebras House Jam, the reggae version of Zebras 4 Lyfe and Zebras (backtrack) that MC Maswe emotionally wrote and performed to show appreciation to the boys. Clad in complete Zebras' traditional dresses, MC Maswe, alongside his Beauty Queens dancers, has graduated into a self-proclaimed symbol of Zebras ceremonial songs.
