CAAB can't find mystery aircraft

Public affairs manager at CAAB, Modipe Nkwe said yesterday that although they have found nothing in their records, investigations have to continue to ascertain the reports.

'The investigations are ongoing, but there are no records in our systems that show any untoward aircraft,' he said.

What makes the investigations even more difficult, is that there are no dates to state when the incident occurred.

Nkwe was confident that their South African counterparts, where the aircraft allegedly originated from, were also conducting their own investigations.

According to media reports, the pilot of the plane was a soldier from the South African Air Force. He allegedly entered Botswana illegally after borrowing the aircraft to visit a friend. The independent newspapers reported that the pilot flew a Cessna 172 without submitting a flight plan, nor permission to enter Botswana air space.

There are allegations that a citizen of Botswana aided him. A commission of enquiry has been set up.

Meanwhile the Director of the Directorate of Intelligence Services (DIS), Isaac Kgosi has said that there are no new developments in the matter.

'We have stated that the investigations are ongoing and you will be informed when there is any new information,' he said.

He added that they take the matter seriously and will leave no stone unturned.
