RIPCO (B) introduces multi-purpose thresher
| Friday November 9, 2007 00:00
'With an output ranging from 400 kg per hour for maize and 200 kg per hour for sorghum and beans, the multi-purpose thresher is ideally suited for small and medium scale farmers and will indeed relieve them of manual threshing with its attendant health risks,' a statement from RIIC says.
'Powered by a 5.5 hose power petrol engine, the multi-purpose thresher can be operated by two people, one feeding and the other bagging the final product.'
The technology complements other machines developed by RIIC such as the RIIC sorghum thresher and maize sheller, and will largely relieve farmers who have not been able to source a thresher for beans from the market.
Established in 1974, RIPCO (B)'s mandate is to undertake research and development for industrial development. The company has contributed to the socio-economic development of Botswana through the provision of appropriate technological interventions such as planting and post-harvest technologies, water treatment, building and renewable energy technologies.
