Botswana models off to Zim Fashion Week

The models (three females and two males)flew to Harare under the aegis of First Models Agency (FMA).Speaking to Showbiz before departure yesterday, Thor Dunetta of FMA said that the team had to leave a few days earlier so that they could prepare well for the show. The models had a task of fitting clothes before the show and as well as practise their walks on the ramp.

He added that they were also to liaise with the organisers to see whose clothes the Botswana models would be showcasing.Dunetta said that FMA is the business of securing gigs for models outside the country because the Botswana market is limited.

He explained that it is the first time for them to clinch the deal to take models to the Zimbabwe Fashion Weekend. They had submitted around 28 model portfolios but only five had been chosen, he said adding that out of the five, four were already confirmed and they just had to add one more model of their choice.

Fortune Madyise, also from FMA, said that the Zimbabwe Fashion Week could have been a huge challenge for them, but he was delighted to note that Batswana models were ready for their debut at the Harare show. He said their participation would be a major breakthrough, in the sense that they would again be raising the Botswana flag in a foreign country.

Madyise also revealed that they recently managed to secure a deal with Boss Models in South Africa for two models in their continued bid to give Batswana international exposure. He also disclosed that they are eyeing the Swahili Fashion Week, which is set to take place in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, in November.

The FMA agent stated that FMA is a member of the World Model Association, which is why it is easier for them to secure events for their models. Madyise also noted that the Zimbabwe Fashion Week is one of the biggest events on the Zimbabwean entertainment calendar and has this year attracted big designers like South Africa's David Tlale.
