Thugs on horseback terrorise Maun

In an interview with Mmegi yesterday, assistant senior superintendent Oarabile Hulela of Maun Police Station said they are investigating the incidents, which started on the first weekend of this month.

He said four people revealed that they were assaulted and robbed by the horsemen along the streets of Maun.

'What happens is that you would hear the sound of hooves as the horses approach and when you try to move out of the way, the men on horses will take out sjamboks and whip you and proceed to relieve you of your cellphone,' he said. The hooligans are still at large. Asked what they are doing to bring them to book, Hulela said they have mounted a big investigation, which includes surveillance, foot patrols, car patrols and even police helicopters.

'Last weekend we requested our air arm people to help us with a helicopter so that we can look out for these criminals, while some were on foot patrols, others were in vehicles. We will do everything we can to arrest them,' he said.
