Murder at police mess

FRANCISTOWN: Police here are investigating a shocking incident in which a 33-year-old man was brutally murdered at a police mess here by a goon 12 years the man's junior, with a sharp object believed to be a knife.Police have confirmed that the alleged assailant was arrested at his home within hours of stabbing the man below the left breast at the police mess near Government Camp on Saturday night.

The Commander of Central Police Station (CPS) here, Superintendent Mojaboswa Mathitha, told Mmegi on Monday: 'Yes, we are investigating a murder case in which a man aged 21 allegedly killed a 33-year-old man with a sharp object over the weekend after a heated argument, but I cannot divulge any more details at this stage.'The deceased lived in Monarch while the alleged murderer is a resident of Areas S. Both men hail from Tonota. The body of the deceased is awaiting an autopsy at Kagiso Funeral Parlour while the alleged killer is in custody pending arraignment. Superintendent Mathitha was quick to re-assure patrons of the police mess where the incident occured.

'The case has nothing to do with security at the police mess,' he said. 'It is just unfortunate that it happened there.' He could not confirm that the man was a bouncer at the mess, as some people have alleged.Eyewitnesses say the two men had first exchanged heated words at a bar in Monarch.
