Afro Kwasa Stars billed for General Manager's Sponsored Walk

Billed for August 11, the 2012 edition of the sponsored walk will be themed 'Towards Effective and Sustainable Community Development.'

The British High Commissioner to Botswana, Jennifer Anderson, will be the guest walker.

OLDM's Public and Corporate Affairs Manager, Kesego Okie, says the walk will start at the Damtshaa turn-off and end at Itekeng Stadium where most of the activities scheduled for the day will be held.

The walk aims to raise funds for the socio-economic benefit of the Boteti Sub-District. Okie says it will also serve to demonstrate the company's commitment to community upliftment by bringing lasting change in areas identified to benefit from the funds raised.

'This year our aim is to extend our legacy to some of the settlements identified by government at the just ended Diphuduhudu Convention whose primary objective was to contribute towards poverty eradication in Botswana,' she says.

Discussions are already underway between OLDM Management and the Boteti Sub-District to identify and implement projects in the region.

Okie adds that the concept is in line with the Debswana brand value of 'Show We Care,' which the company has since extended to its business partners to ensure a collective approach to sustainable community development.

There will be a variety show at the Sports Hall in the evening of the walk to allow as many members of the community as possible to be actively involved. The show is divided into Best Traditional Attire, Choral Music, Traditional Dance, Poetry, Drama, Comedy, Gospel Music, Dance and other categories.

'There are a number of high profile groups who will take part in the 'V-Show,' among them Teemane Arts Troupe of Orapa and Zauzera Cultural Productions from Khwee,' Okie says.

Zaurera Cultural Productions won second prize in the Tsutsube category at the recent President's Day Arts competitions.

'We are proud to have sponsored both groups at the various stages of the competitions and will continue identifying opportunities to harness and enhance their talent in arts and culture,' says Okie.

Another OLDM beneficiary is Afro Kwasa Stars, a Letlhakane-based dance group that recently competed in My African Dream senior finals. It is expected to mesmerise the audience with its sensual rhumba dance moves.
