King Solomon wants to emulate the biblical king

A Zion Christian Church (ZCC) devotee, gospel musician Boineelo King Solomon hopes to be remembered for a long time just like his biblical namesake.

However, he notes, he would not commit the same mistakes that the famous Israel king committed in the last years of his reign.

Solomon would like to be remembered as a musician who brought change to the lives of those he would touch and the one who used his wisdom to produce the kind of music that would make his followers see the light provided by the creator.

For those who might wonder how he adopted such a big name, the answer is simple: This affable musician was given the sobriquet by childhood friends due to his large frame and coincidently his surname happened to be Solomon.

'I am a Christian and as such I have read up on King Solomon's work and while he did well in that famous judgement we all know that he derailed somewhere in his life, but it was perhaps his wisdom that inspired this name,' Solomon told Showbiz.

The Bible tells us that the Israeli ruler blundered somewhere along the way, choosing to ignore God's advice that his women were going to bring him down - and that is the kind of mistake the musician would not want to commit.

'I hope to continue obeying God and follow his guidance throughout my life and career,' Solomon said.

Raised by a single mother, Solomon was left devastated when his mother died in 1995 but his faith in God carried him along.

'My mother was my role model. She raised a family of five single-handedly despite the fact that she was uneducated.  She raised us under Christian principles, as she was also a ZCC member. After she died when I was still 14 years-old I was baptised and I was able to pull through,' he said.

Solomon says his album Tshepha Jehova is a testimony that despite all the struggles God never deserts anyone.

'I sing spiritually and I always hope to touch the lives of those who listen to my music,' he said.

While acknowledging that his first release flopped badly, Solomon is adamant that Tshepha Jehova has sustained him because God had a plan for him.

'I am motivated by Mzwakhe Mbuli's words in one of his songs where he says 'Never refuse to listen to the voice of reason, don't advertise your failures, God's delay is not a denial, never give up' and Philippians 4: 19 says 'But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus' and now my second album is able to sustain me,' he said.
