Makau and Culture Spears shine at Gaborone Silver Jubilee celebrations

The event was attended by a number of people, amongst them different high ranking government officials such as the Minister of Local Government Peter Siele, the Gaborone Mayor Haskins Nkaigwa and his deputy and Gaborone councillors. The event was lined up with many activities such as Molelo wa kgolagano (torch lighting), motor cycle displays and horse parades. The Botswana Defence Force (BDF) band gave the ceremony a lively performance. When Culture Spears entered the stage the audience roared with happiness as they cheered enthusiastically. The group did not disappoint their fans as they displayed a lively act. After performing a few songs, the crew sauntered off the stage, leaving some of their fans hungry for more, while some were clearly satisfied.

The rib crackers Makau threw the audience into fits of laughter with their energetic and well rehearsed performance. The crew put on a unique act and left both young and old teary eyed. The minister and mayor could not hide their excitement and approval, as they cheered and applauded. The Setinkane lads impressed their fans, who all wanted a piece of them after their brilliant performance.Other acts who entertained the audience were the Marimba crew, Gaborone Youth Singers choir and Boswa Primary School learners. The afternoon activities were followed by a friendly game between Gaborone City Council (GCC) and the Media team. The 30 minutes game ended with GCC beating the Media team two goals to one. There was also a Gaborone Derby where popular local teams Gaborone United (GU) and Township Rollers battled for the trophy and medals from the council.
