Japan recognises BOKA for promoting karate

A press release from the Japanese Embassy stated that BOKA is one of the most committed groups in the world to promote Japanese culture through karate. Karate is not only known as sport but culture in Japan. BOKA was chosen after the Japanese embassy here nominated it for the accolade.

BOKA is the only African association that was honoured among the 18 other groups that were commended. An elated BOKA spokesperson, Jerry Ditlhong said the award is an indication of defined mission and vision, directed by strong administration leadership. Ditlhong said that the Japanese embassy submitted their name showed the confidence that they have in them.

Ditlhong said despite lacking facilities Botswana karate has done relatively well. Karate is the number one medal winner locally. The Ambassador of Japan will hand the award to Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture Shaw Kgathi and BOKA President, Million Masumbika.

This is not the first time that Tokyo has recognised BOKA's efforts. Japan sponsored the construction of the karate training centre known as the Dojo situated in Gaborone.
