Miss Millennium Charity Organisation launched

The coordinator of Miss Millennium, Lucia Molebatsi Seretse explained that the organisation is a Non Government Organisation (NGO) that will coordinate the activities of Miss Millennium.  She added that the organisation, which will have a board of trustees, will be autonomous from the Millennium restaurant and will be engaged in hosting  fund raising events.'Setting up the organisation is one of the challenges that the current Miss Millennium, Motlhabi will be faced with, but it will be easy for Miss Millennium to spread her wings through her participation in the Miss Millennium Charity Organisation,' Seretse said.

Meanwhile, Seretse said even though the fund raising dinner wasn't highly attended, she still deems the event a success because it helped to get the message of the organisation across.  She said the dinner dance was also successful thanks to the stellar performances by the artists.  She added that some of the audience was made up of visitors from South Africa who were really wowed by the local artists' performances.'We were pleased to have artists like Lister Boleseng, Kearoma Rantao and the Stampore Trio perform at the fund raising dinner,' said Seretse who was also pleased to note that Kearoma took advantage of her performance that night to promote her new album.

Unfortunately, the target set for the fundraising dinner by its organisers did not reach the set P 3,000, but  the amount that was raised is considered a starting point. This was Motlhabi's first major engagement since she was crowned earlier this year to which Seretse said: 'I think this was just the  beginning for Patience.  In the upcoming months, things are going to be more hectic for her,' said Seretse, adding that there are a number of activities lined up for Miss Millennium. One of the activities that will be undertaken is a car wash fundraiser:  'This will be a get-together where people can mingle.

There will also be lifestyle stalls where people will be able to gather information on various issues.  The cherry on top of the event will be a braai.'  Besides the car wash fundraiser, Motlhabi said other fund raising events that are in the pipeline include an oldies disco evening, a cultural dress event and a cleaning campaign.  In addition,  they will also hold another campaign to raise awareness about cancer. In her charity efforts, Motlhabi will not only focus on Gaborone but also its surrounding areas. Miss Millennium is still working on identifying several deserving causes that she can support.
