Fourty Chinese companies based in Botswana have pledged to build 120 houses for the needy. The entities, which are mainly drawn from theconstruction industry, have given themselves six years to complete the project. Miles Nan of Mileage Air revealed yesterday that he has been in charge of mobilising his fellow Chinese investors to respond to President Ian
Khama's housing appeal for the needy. They join the likes of CA Sales directors, Jagdish Shah and Ian Thompson, who pledged to build 72 houses for the needy at roughly P8 million. The CA Sales directors further mobilised their suppliers to build a further 12 houses with Tastic Rice contributing four houses Nan said already 10 of the 120 housing projects are ongoing. Construction giant, Sinohydro has pledged to build 10 houses along with Master Joinery & Aluminium while CSCEC Botswana has pledged to build eight.
Eight Chinese construction companies have pledged to build six houses each. They include Complant Botswana, Zhonggan, Tuwana, CCEC Botswana, POWACOM Engineering, R.A Building, Invaders Building Construction, Ezra & Ezra Construction and Unik Construction. Nan was optimistic that his fellow countrymen would make good their pledges, adding that his role is to both mobilise the Chinese business community as well as to follow up on the pledges each has made.
Other significant contributors to the housing appeal project include Choppies Stores who have pledged to build 138 houses. Letshego Holdings has pledged 12 houses while Trans Africa and GIPS have pledged 10 houses apiece.
