Eight in race for Miss Earth Botswana crown

Miss Earth Botswana organiser, Beatrice Barrows, said that they were looking for someone who can diligently represent the country.  She said the person should not only possess the looks but should also have extensive knowledge about the environment.

A Miss Air, Water and Fire will also be crowned at the grand finale, which is scheduled to start at 7:30pm.  The eventual winner has the choice of either representing Botswana at the international Miss Earth pageant to be held in Bangkok, Thailand, on November 12 or she can walk away with P10,000 prize money.  Miss Air, Water and Fire winners will pocket P2,500, P2,000 and P1,500 each.

Meanwhile, the contestants were earlier this year engaged in several charity projects. Barrows said that after the grand finale, the winners would be engaged in environmental projects.

'For the queen, this would be her preparation for Thailand,' she said.

The Carousel Productions Inc established the Miss Earth Botswana pageant in 2001 as a way of getting ambassadors in the form of beauty queens to participate in environmental preservation activities.  It also aims to showcase and promote various tourist destinations throughout the world.
