Bakery closes over hefty electricity bill

The more than 43 employees of the company have not been paid in the past month and are worried that they may ultimately lose their jobs as the bakery has been closed since the end of July. An employee who wanted to remain anonymous told Mmegi that ever since July 29 when the bakery was closed after a power cut by Botswana Power Corporation, they were barred from entering the locked premises.

He said the bakery manager, Mohammed Badrodin, has been avoiding them and even took all the keys from his staff.

'He paid our salaries late in July and has still not paid us for  August. We come to work every day and sit outside the locked bakery,' said another employee.

She said there has been no explanation from the management about the closure and that all they know is that they are still employees of Just Bread since no one has dismissed them from work. Badrodin, revealed that their electricity bills were too high and that they had to close down for a while.

'If all goes well, we will open for business on Monday and all employees will be re-engaged. They will all receive their August salaries by Wednesday evening,' he said.
