Gunners call extraordinary meeting

Club chairman William Maboane confirmed the meeting, saying they called the meeting to address pressing issues 'before it is too late'.

He said high on the agenda would be the issue of the club's string of poor results. Gunners' executive committee was due to meet last night (Tuesday) in preparation for what is expected to be a stormy meeting.

'The main agenda is the current crisis which includes the issue of poor performance and that of factions within the club. These are factions within the support base and we need to determine how we will deal with the opposition.

Obviously there are other underlying factors that need to be dealt with to improve performance,' Maboane said. Gunners has started this season badly, winning one game, securing two draws and losing four matches.

Some sections of the club have been baying for coach Maxwell Moyo's blood, but last week management responded by suspending his assistant, Nelson Olebile. They accused him of interfering with Moyo's job.

Maboane stated that they wanted to put Olebile's issue to rest at the weekend meeting.

'The issue of the coach is an item that is coming, as well as that of the assistant coach.

We are reviewing information that led to the assistant coach's suspension.

We want to close the chapter as soon as possible,' he said. Maboane also confirmed another issue to be discussed would be indiscipline among players.

'There are signs of indiscipline among players that will need to be addressed as well,' he said.

Observers believe Maboane was referring to the issue of Hendrick Moyo and Kgololo Leteane, although he added that there were a few other unruly players. Leteane and Moyo missed Saturday's fixture against ECCO City Greens in Francistown.

The two are also accused of failing to report for practice sessions and face suspension.

Meanwhile, Maboane said they have switched their next game against Santos to Jwaneng to give supporters in the mining town an opportunity to watch their team.
