New members sworn in

At elections conducted by secret ballot yesterday, Thuso Bogatsu of Tlokweng Land Board retained his seat as president of the association after beating Kweneng and Kgalagadi Land Boards by 66 percent of the votes. David Modisagae is the vice president. Other new members of the executive are Ogone Molema of Rolong Land Board as treasurer and two additional members, Kaisara Mpedi of Kgatleng and Tebogo Alfred of Tati Land Board.

Voting was open to all delegates nominated by the members of the association. Addressing the conference as new president Bogatsu said the success of the organisation is not only based on the subscribers but also involves stakeholders in administration led by the board. 'Therefore we should not chase away those stakeholders by antagonising them, we should rather work together in order to achieve our goal as well as to sell our association to potential investors,' he said.

The 2011 resolutions for the association were presented for discussion at the next conference, in 2013. Some of the resolutions are that the Ministry of Agriculture should provide Land Boards with district annual reports on the performance of their sub sectors i.e. arable and livestock sub sectors, Ministry of Agriculture should identify strategic feedlots for allocation by the board and that it should consider constructing government feedlots in the communal area.
