Chiseko departs after goal drought as Sankala checks in

GU dismissed Chiseko this week after the player was deemed surplus to requirements, despite being at the club for only a few months.Chiseko had found it difficult to settle, managing only one goal in nine matches. The club gave Chiseko abundant opportunities to prove himself, but he failed to rise to the occasion. GU reportedly gave the striker an ultimatum to find the net in the last two matches against Mochudi Centre Chiefs and ECCO City Greens, but still the player failed to fire. GU public relations officer (PRO), City Senne said Chiseko failed to perform to expectations.

'Chiseko has failed to perform to satisfaction. He has been on probation, which we had extended to see if the striker could score goals for us, but that did not happen,' Senne said.Senne said that ever since GU signed the player, he managed to score only a single goal against BDF XI. However, he said despite the goal drought, Chiseko remained a good player but was simply not up to GU standards.

'So, we parted ways amicably with him. He also understood that we wanted goals, which he failed to deliver. Here at GU we wanted to have someone to score goals for us,' he said.

Senne said GU is negotiating with Sankala to replace Chiseko. The Zambian striker has been in the country for trials and left for his native country on Sunday after impressing. The GU spokesperson, said the management is keen to sign Sankala as soon as possible, but coach Elvis Chiweshe would have the final say.

'Sankala is a good striker, we believe he will make a difference here at GU. He plays in the top league in Zambia for a team called ZANACO,' Senne said. Sankala is a former Zambian international player.
