SA gospel guru Dube to inspire local singers

Despite the fact that Botswana boasts of talented musicians, the diamond-rich nation has failed to produce quality musicians that can be counted among the best in the region when compared to countries like South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Maz Productions Manager Ludzi Nfila told Showbiz in an interview that the combination of lack of inspiration and financial constraints among aspiring gospel musicians in Botswana has caused the country's gospel industry to remain undeveloped.

It is against this backdrop that Maz Productions has invited Reverend Benjamin Dube, a gospel music producer, musician and minister of note - to jointly conduct praise and worship seminars with promising local singer and evangelist, Mazwihwo Nfila.

As part of Maz Productions' burning desire to discover and inspire new local talent, legendary Dube and budding Nfila are expected to conduct seminars in Maun, Orapa and Francistown on November 25, 26 and 27.

Nfila said the seminars are going to be hosted during the day preceding concerts in the evenings where people are going to be treated to the best music from the 49-year-old celebrated gospel icon alongside Botswana's up-and-coming evangelist Nfila.

The Maz Productions' manager said the main objectives of the seminars and concerts are bringing together different denominations to worship under one roof and spiritually inspire 'wannabe gospel musicians' to remain resolute in serving the Lord.

He said gospel music lovers and aspiring musicians can expect to experience the original and soothing music from the South African-born Dube and locally based Nfila laced with different languages and rhythms.

'Many aspiring singers in Botswana believe that for a local musician to thrive, one must have a strong financial background.  Some are failing because they lack determination and personal discipline.

After realising this, Maz Productions took it upon themselves to make a difference by inviting Dube to share his experiences with the local people.  It is our belief that the initiative will make a huge difference in many people's lives,' said Nfila.

Nfila said Maz Productions identified Dube of Through It All fame because he has been in the gospel industry since 1986 with 15 albums under his belt and that he is outstanding on the stage to inspire many young singers.

The seminars will take place from 11am to 1pm on the day for each concert with a possibility of a passionate aspiring gospel singer being given an opportunity to showcase his/her talent during the show.

Tickets are sold at P100 for single and P150 double.  The event is brought in partnership with Adansonia Hotel, City Life Bookshop, Mike Beat and Webticket.
