Work campers to hold AGM tomorrow

'The AGM will reflect on things that we have done from last year to-date and to see where we have gone wrong so that we may fix it,' the organisation's administrative secretary, Kagiso Moatshe, told Mmegi.

'We expect our invitees to assist us with ideas.

Members of the association will congregate jointly and make decisions and resolutions, paving the way forward for BWA.'

Expected notables at the event include Kgosi Sediegeng Kgamane and cabinet misister Ramadeluka Seretse.

BWA provides voluntary services to communities throughout Botswana, with emphasis on the less privileged.

The organisation has over 300 dedicated volunteers from secondary schools, tertiary institutions and members of the public. It focuses on various categories, among them environmental, where volunteers mainly plant trees, collect litter, improve nature trails in parks and prevent soil erosion; construction, where members build public toilets, classrooms, and community halls; renovation and social work where volunteers work with children, refugees and handicapped people.

'We work hand in hand with social workers, MPs and councillors to help poor people with food and putting a roof over their heads, especially people who do not have proper or any accommodation at all,' Moatshe explained.

Companies like Mileage and PPC Botswana often help finance BWA's construction projects.

BWA is an NGO and non-profit making voluntary organisation that was registered with the Ministry of Home Affairs in 1980 under the Societies Acts.

It is an affiliate of Botswana National Youth Council (BNYC), a member of Botswana Council of Non-Governmental Organisations (BOCONGO) and is affiliated to the Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Services (CCIVS) in Paris, France.
