Satmos' promotion confirmed as three clubs fined

Three clubs - Mahalapye Hotspurs, Maun Terros, and Orapa Bucs - were hauled before the committee after failing to honour some fixtures and causing some matches to be abandoned.

Divisional secretary Moraole Sikwane said the three clubs were fined in accordance with the Botswana Football Association (BFA) play rules and regulations. He said the result of the game, between Hotspurs and Great North Tigers (GNT), which was abandoned with the latter leading 2-0, will stand.

Sikwane said the committee used section 8.2 and 8.4 of the rules and regulations. 'We also used the report of the referee of that day which simply shows that there was misconduct resulting in the game being abandoned,' he said.

In the case involving Orapa Bucs and Maun Terrors, the Maun side was fined P500, which must be paid within 10 days, failing which six points will be deducted. Terrors failed to honour the fixture. Sikwane said three points were deducted from Terrors and the game awarded to Bucs on a 2-0 scoreline.

In a twist of events, Bucs also lost three points, which were awarded to No Mathata after the Orapa side failed to honour the fixture. The ruling means No Mathata finish the league sixth with 32 points. Bucs and Terrors are relegated to Division Two after the ruling.

With Satmos confirmed champions, a game to decide runners-up will be played between Hotspurs and GNT.

Hotspurs are ahead of GNT, but the Mahalapye side got six soft points during the season. A deciding game will be played for sport No 2 between GNT and Hotspurs as Hotspurs has six soft points. 'We would like to congratulate Satmos for a job well done and wish them the best in the Premier League. Orapa Bucs and Maun Terrors are relegated, we also wish them the best so that they can return to the First Division,' he said.
