Wanted man arrested in Ramotswa

He was arrested at a house in Ramotswa at around 4pm and taken to the local police station and later transported to Gaborone Maximum State Prison.

Known as Botsi, the man slipped from an armed detail of police and prison officers after he asked to use a toilet.

He left the leg-irons in the toilet. Police spokesman assistant commissioner, Christopher Mbulawa confirmed the re-arrest of Botsi saying the man was in transit to Serowe, where he was scheduled to appear in court for mention for armed robbery when he requested to be allowed to go to the toilet.

He was under the watch of seven police officers and prison warders, some of whom were armed. 'The handcuffs were removed so that he could use the toilet,' Mbulawa said.

'However, when the officers checked on him five minutes later, they found only his leg irons. The man was nowhere to be seen.'

Though Botsi is characterised as dangerous, Mbulawa says they have not received any report of him causing trouble anywhere. The fugitive, who has other criminal cases pending before the Molepolole Magistrates' Court, was wearing a brown jacket, grey trousers and a pair of sneakers. Mbulawa says the police will conduct an investigation into how Botsi gave seven watchful men the slip.
