BONA has now joined the Africa Netball Federation (ANF) as it was felt that CANA was not doing enough for netball.
The association's president, Tebogo Lebotse told delegates at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Palapye on Saturday that BONA is now affiliated to ANF in line with the world body's constitution. 'We are no longer affiliated to CANA. The international federation has passed a motion of no confidence on it. We are now affiliated to Africa Netball, which is the official body recognised by the international federation,' she said.
At the AGM, the BONA board registered only one club from Gantsi. Lebotse said the other two clubs are in the process of registering and have been given up to next month to complete the process before the league resumes.
'Other new clubs that want to be affiliated to BONA are welcome to register and the board will consider them on merit,' Lebotse said. Meanwhile, BDF Cats' coach Setshedi Botlhole Mmopi and Confederation of Southern Africa Netball (COSANA) Zone Six secretary general, Eva Mwila were elected to the BONA committee at the AGM.
Mmopi, the former national team coach, is the new vice president (technical), and succeeds Nelson Moncho who did not seek re-election. Moncho had served in the position for 10 years.
Mmopi received 10 votes from the 16 clubs that voted. She beat Gaborone Prisons' coach, Lorato Thebekgosi, and Southern Zone secretary and COSANA umpire, Kelebonye Mabeo. Former BONA president Mwila replaces Kesego Mogotsi as treasurer. Mwila was unopposed as Mogotsi stepped down at the AGM.
Gracious Seru, the BONA secretary general, managed to defend her position, which she contested against Mabeo and Reagents Mosimanewapula. Seru got eight votes.
