It aims to be a regular feature every Thursday to add colour to the Gaborone's entertainment landscape. The opening night attracted high profile clientele from the diplomatic missions and the corporate sector. The city's big spenders queued to sample a rare entertainment flavour associated with Latino sophistication, status and appetite for things grandeur.
The patrons, some seated on couches and sipping diverse Cuban alcoholic offerings and cigars, appeared absolutely content with the atmosphere, while young women, skilled in the dress code and dance styles such as the conga, bolero, cha-cha, and salsa, grabbed the rare opportunity to showcase their repertoire.
As it appeared, small is good, if not just perfect. The patrons looked just happy to number a manageable figure, as opposed to a crowd. The organiser of the Latino night Tai Tsholofelo Conley says she was targeting the types that are bored of house music and want to taste something different like the Latino entertainment.
Although the Lacassa Restaurant is always open at the Mowana Park, Phakalane, the organiser says this was the first time that they brought the Latino disco as well as the wide variety of alcoholic tastes, the dcor and other finer details.
Some lovers of the Latino nightlife were seen carrying and playing portable beating drums that are said to be a common sight in the Latino nightlife.
Conley describes herself as a multilingual, multi-cultured person who has graduated in Spanish language as well.
The first night brought a smile on the face of the organiser who doubled as the event's DJ and also interacted with the patrons. But she is hoping for a bigger turnout in the coming weeks, as the Latino night is staged every Thursday.
