Load shedding intensifies as temperatures plummet

BPC communications manager, Tlhomamiso Selato told Mmegi last night that the increase in load shedding was necessitated by the plummeting temperatures brought about by a cold front in South Africa.

'Load shedding has intensified due to the dropping temperatures. In some areas, loss of power has been due to some faults. We encourage people to use power efficiently,'  Selato said.

Large parts of Gaborone were plunged into darkness on Sunday evening and the trend continued last night.

The sub zero weather is expected to continue in most parts of the country, with some areas recording ground frost.Botswana has experienced power outages particularly in winter as it relies heavily on supplies from South Africa. South Africa has decided to cut back on supplies to neighbours in a bid to meet rising domestic demand.
