With 36 000 square metres of lettable space, the shopping centre is already attracting robust interest from the market.
Bifm officials said already handovers were being made to tenants who have contracted space in the shopping centre. 'Construction started at the end of September 2010, and the first handover to Builders Warehouse - a major supplier of construction and home improvement material - was done on June 7 2011,' said Bifm Marketing and Communication Manager, Tebogo Hirschfeldt.
'Builders Warehouse has almost completed its shop fittings and is expected to start receiving stock by June 22 2011. Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) will be taking occupation of its area on June 24 2011. Both Builders Warehouse and KFC are therefore expected to start trading by the end of August 2011.'
Hirschfeldt said progress in other areas of the shopping centre was also pleasing as structures for tenants such as Spar and Edgars were at an advanced stage. Commented Bifm Chief Executive Officer, Tiny Kgatlwane: 'In terms of employment, the Airport Junction Centre has created around 1 000 jobs.
The centre will also improve the landscape of Block 10 as well as enhance property values in the area.' The project is expected to be complete in April 2012.
