Decision time for Magosi

The state of affairs has left many supporters wondering about the direction their club is taking and the eagerly awaited Annual General Meeting (AGM) is expected to be a heated affair.

The club tasted its first success in the league and Coca-Cola Cup four seasons ago after Ernest Molome took over as the chairman. The feat saw Chiefs break the jinx that made them the only giants in local football never to have won a major competition. Molome and his committee transformed the club with big name signings and this raised hopes that more titles are on the way. However, Chiefs are once again living up to their billing as the nearly men of Botswana football. As usual, they are faltering at crucial moments when least expected.

Chiefs are said to have the highest monthly wage bill with some players said to be earning around P12,000.Molome's reign as the chairman came to an end in June last year when an interim committee was appointed to transform the club. The committee is expected to give a progress report tomorrow. Chiefs' spokesperson, Ronald Modikana has said they appreciate the criticism leveled against the committee as it shows that people care about the club. He explained that they worked very well with the previous leadership since they all want to make Chiefs the best club in the country. 'We have moved a step forward. It cannot take a year but we will definitely get there,' he promised.

Modikana said that it is not a secret that the club is struggling financially but their aim is to keep their players they have. He stated that signing on fees for players always makes things difficult. Several Chiefs players are said to be out of contract including Pontsho Moloi, Oteng Moalosi and Othusitse Pilane. Moloi is linked with Gaborone United (GU). The AGM starts at 9am. Modikana said they will only allow members inside the meeting hall. However, they will recruit new members during the day after payment of P100.
