Film on strike to chronicle the reawakening of a nation

The film will portray the strike and 'its fascinating role in creating an awakening of the nation in a balanced non-partisan thoroughly engaging manner,' the statement said.

Recorded footage of the protesting workers, students and security forces will be used together with interviews with union leaders, union members, political leaders and media practitioners, the statement from BKDS Films said, to tell a 'powerful, factual story of how what began as a simple industrial action resulted in the reawakening of a nation.'

Further, the filmmakers promise to use never-before-seen archival footage of interviews with Former First Lady Ruth Khama, former leader of the opposition Dr Kenneth Koma and a former president Sir Ketumile Masire. The filmmaker says that a speech by first president of the country Sir Seretse Khama will feature prominently as a reminder of Botswana's historical peace.

The film will examine the country's practice of human rights and democracy through interrogation of the constitution, the role of parliament and power of the presidency. Billy Kokorwe and Dominic Savage own BKDS Films.  The production company has previously made 'An African Democrat'- a documentary film about Sir Ketumile Masire, and a film about Lady Ruth Khama.
