The Reds this week confirmed that the Zebras' number two goalkeeper, Maposa, has sealed a two-year deal. While the player signed as a free agent after his contract with Chiefs expired, sources within the corridors of the Kgatleng giants' club have disclosed that Maposa had verbally agreed to extend his deal after receiving a signing-on fee of P40,000 recently.
'He actually agreed to a new deal and was given P40,000 as a signing on fee, but was to sign the contract at a later date. He kept delaying and now we hear he has signed for GU as a free agent,' said the source. Chiefs' chairman Ernest Molome told Mmegi Sport that Maposa had instructed them to keep his Blue Book. 'The BFA play rules and regulations say Noah is still our player because we have his registration book. His book is still with us and until we release it to GU he still belongs to us. That he signed a contract (is immaterial because) he can terminate the contract. But we are saying 'for now the book is with us' and he should write a letter to us if he wants to go to GU, but he told us to hold on to the book,' Molome told Mmegi Sport.
Asked about the alleged P40,000 that Maposa is said to have received, he said: 'That one is between employer and employee, it's a personal issue; I cannot discuss it in the media. It would be unfair to discuss it in the media.' There has been an air of confusion around Maposa's ownership after Chiefs sent him for trials at Platinum Stars in South Africa, together with striker Moemedi Moatlhaping last week. Maposa returned to South Africa again on Tuesday night to try his luck with Thanda Royal Zulu. The player refused to comment on the matter. While GU chairman Fedelis Nkomazana reiterated that it is a done deal and they are only waiting for is his registration book, Molome insists: 'A contract is a contract, anything can happen with a contract. If Noah wants to join GU we will release the Blue Book to GU, if he wants to join Township Rollers he can join them.'
Meanwhile, Molome is confident that they will retain all the senior players who are out of contract. The club has already released Itayi Gwandu, who joined Rahman Gumbo at FC Platinum in Zimbabwe and Zambian left-back James Kachinga.
'It's not a secret that some players' contracts have expired and those we want we will renew,' Molome said.
