Da Gama is currently running the rule over last season's top goal-scorer, Moemedi 'Jomo' Maotlhaping and indications are that the Mochudi Centre Chiefs' man might sign on the dotted lines.
The former Orlando Pirates' coach has revealed that Rollers' speed merchant, Koko, was also in his plans. 'I would have wanted to sign Koko (Sekhana) but I'm told he has signed for another club,' Da Gama said on Wednesday.
It appears Da Gama was referring to National First Division side Bay United. The club's coach, David Bright was said to be eager to sign Koko to strengthen his side as he gears up to fight for a Premiership spot next season.
'Bright had indicated his intention to sign Chicken (Koko) and at some point the player was scheduled to travel to South Africa for trials. But I'm not sure if that happened or not,' said a source.
Koko confirms he recently attended brief trials at Bay United but is still awaiting their offer. He said he was not aware of Stars' interest in him.
'I haven't signed a contract with any club, as I speak I'm still in Botswana. Yes, I went to Bay United recently and they looked at me but there's nothing concrete so far. I'm not sure about the Platinum Stars interest,' Koko said yesterday.
Efforts to get a comment from Bright were fruitless as his mobile phone rang unanswered. Zebras' first choice goalkeeper, Modiri Marumo, who turns out for Bay United, confirmed that Koko was recently at the club, but he is not aware whether the club would sign his countryman on or not. Marumo himself recently penned a long-term deal with the club.
