BNF youth query Marobela

Marobela is a member of the International Socialists of Botswana organisation, which was expelled from the BNF during Otsweletse Moupo's presidency. NFYL spokesman, Maikgantsho Ramontsho, says 'as the youth league we took a position that the inclusion of people like Marobela in the negotiating team is questionable'. Ramontsho says they are of the view that the Mochudi congress resolution on reinstating expelled and 'suspended members' means those who want to join the party should indicate so by re-applying, especially for administrative purposes.

He said when you have been expelled you no longer appear on the party database, hence affected members are urged to re-apply. We are not against reconciliation and we are also not saying they should be rejected. We are simply saying they should be procedurally brought back into the party,' he said.

The youth league spokesman said the unity talks are very important and it would be unfair for people like Marobela, whose membership has not been normalised to be part of the BNF negotiating team.  'She is not a member of the BNF at the moment,' he said.

Contacted for comment, Marobela said she was reinstated into the BNF after the congress resolution. She explained that party secretary general Akanyang Magama wrote them a letter alerting them to the fact that a Mochudi congress resolution has reinstated them.  The letter, she said, relayed that they are unconditionally reinstated. Magama declined to comment.
