Flamingos fly past Terrors

The Sua-based club thrashed struggling Maun Terrors 2-1 at the Maun Sports Complex on Saturday. Flamingos started their second round campaign with a 1-1 draw against No Mathata a fortnight ago. Travelling to Maun still celebrating a 1-0 win against FC Tonota, Flamingos found Terrors on mute mode. After a-not-so entertaining first half, Flamingos' striker, Batisani Kgakgamatso, found the back of the net twice in the second half to earn his team maximum points.

Terrors' consolation goal came deep in the referee's optional time through Kenneth Katjizeni. The win takes Flamingos' record to six games without a loss under caretaker coach, Wathusa Dube who took over from the sacked Wetsho Otsile. Flamingos looked for Dube after a 8-2 loss to FC Tonota towards the end of the first round. Dube said he was happy with his team's performance but expressed misgivings about referee Caslis Jack's handling of the game. He accused the referee of showing his players unnecessary yellow cards when not a single Terrors' man was booked. The previous week, visiting BR Highlanders' coach, Lebitso Ratlou expressed the same sentiments about Jack after his team slumped to a 3-1 defeat against Terrors.

Dube said getting a win away is a major boost to his players. He said they are targeting at least second spot in the league so that they qualify for the Premier League qualification play-offs. 'We have been plying our trade in the Second Division since 2005. We are now targeting promotion to the elite league,' he told Sport Monitor. Dube said he is aware this is an uphill battle. Flamingos still have to play title contenders FC Satmos and Mahalapye Hotspurs in Sowatown. 'We will be playing at home against those teams so we will use our home ground advantage to our benefit,' he asserted.

Maun Terrors' team manager, Kebonyethebe Dikgathatso, bemoaned lack of money which has resulted in the club losing most of its regular players. The players have joined other teams in the First Division North and the Nhabe regional league. At the beginning of the 2010-2011 season, the team lost the coach who helped it avoid relegation. Two of its lethal strikers went to a Sankoyo football team, which is fully sponsored by Sankoyo Community Trust. Terrors registered six players from the constituency league for the second round in an effort to bolster the squad. They are left with five away games and three assignments at home.
