The night Euphonic rocked Bull & Bush

The announcement that South African DJ Euphonik was in town, just created euphoria among the city's night crawlers.  Yes a lot was expected from the popular performer, but his performance at Bull and Bush restaurant in Gaborone on Saturday only came second to our own Shim Rock.

Indeed, Shim Rock proved that 'Local is Lekker' with an inspiring performance, which especially excited the female revellers at the popular joint.  Before Shim Rock another local, Groovy Souls, had fans dancing excitedly to his house mixes, but it was after Shim Rock took over the turntables that the real party began.

With the largely youthful crowd anticipating a night full of House music, Shim Rock chose the most unlikely route and if this was chance it paid off big time.  His hip hop tunes were met with a lot of excitement, especially among the ladies who took to the dance floor with those raunchy dance routines reminiscent of those in the American music videos.

Twisting and hopping the young crowd was simply having fun and with the festive season having gone with all the exciting performances, which were capped by the Mascom Booster Bash at Lion's Park on New Year's eve, it was clear the young folks were thirsty for more of the same.

Make no mistake, Groovy Souls started well on the night getting the patrons in full swing in just a few minutes, but seemed to lose track as he went along and found himself 'performing  for himself' with quite a substantive number of clubbers down on the benches lining the small space as it became clear they were losing interest. But the dreadlocked DJ was able to bounce back towards the end of his show.

The star of the night Euphonik was expected to start like a house on fire but,  no!  It took sometime before he could finally capture the audience's attention and when he finally did he still could not excite them the same way Shim Rock rocked.

But of all the three DJs, Groovy Souls had a better connection with his crowd.  Although he appears a shy person by nature the young man was able to make his crowd feel part of the performance.  In time this guy could turn into a household name.

Bull and Bush will be a busy place in the next few weeks.  The managers are planning to bring more DJs to the venue both from local and from abroad.  Next week Dollar Mack is expected to spin his discs at the venue before South African DJ Zinhle arrives on January 28 with South African hip hop group, Tear Gas scheduled for a performance on February 4.
