GU notch another victory

Gaborone United  notched two straight wins in the Be Mobile Premiership as they defeated struggling Serowe side of Miscellaneous 2-1 in a game played on a soaked pitch. But the Gaborone giants owned by construction mogul, Nicholas Zachem, were given an early scare as the minnows were the first to draw blood.

Rain continued to pour  and the referee allowed play to continue as the two sides slugged it out in muddy conditions. Despite the slippery plate, both sides seemed determined to give their suffering fans something to cheer about. Supporters for the two sides came in large numbers and the bad weather did not dampen their spirits as they literally braved the storm.

Miscellaneous managed to get an early goal through the foot of Emmanuel Thakadu who managed to penetrate the GU defence and scored. Speaking to  Sport Monitor, Miscellaneous coach Teenage Mpote said he was impressed with the performance of his players.

He observed that they did not give GU any respect. 'You saw that the first half belonged to us and the second half belonged to them. We had many chances and I am happy that we managed to convert one into a goal.

I will continue to work hard with the boys,' he said. He said that the rain did not affect their game. GU coach, Letang Rasta Kgwengwenyane said his charges played good football but their performance was below par when compared to their last game.

He said that his side created many chances but did not find the back of the net. 'My boys were playing good football but after scoring the second goal, they got excited.  They just enjoyed dribbling around without scoring,' he said. Kgwengwenyane explained that he is using a youthful team because they are working hard on developing a good squad.

He added that the laying off of some older players has seen his side improving. Kgwengwenyane says he does not feel any pressure since taking over from Zambian coach, Mike Sithole, who was fired late last year amid poor run of form GU team:  Reuben Thakadu, Kenny Ledikwe, Branco Molokwane (Ronald Chikomo 46), George Ohilwe, Tumisang Sekanonyane, Ofentse Nato , Mandla Mgadla, Thebe Maiketso, Godiraone Segaise (Simanyana 65),  and Dillon Chivandire.
