CEDA appoints Thamane new CEO

Thamane replaces Thapelo Matsheka who left the Agency for Aon Botswana in June last year after 10 years of service.

Since June 2010, Thamane has been responsible for the operations of CEDA as the Deputy CEO (Operations), a position that was left  vacant when Lorato Morapedi joined NDB in May 2010.

According to statement released by CEDA,  in this role, Thamane was responsible for the three sectors of CEDA; Agribusiness, Property and Manufacturing and Services. He was also responsible for Customer Service and Business Advisory Services.

Thamane has been with CEDA since 2003 and has progressed over time in different Management roles in the Operations Unit.

Amongst his various roles, Thamane was integral in the formation of the Young Farmers Fund in 2007 where he staffed and trained the team in the department, set up procedures and processes and subsequently appointed to head the Agribusiness sector in early 2009.

In his new role as the Chief Executive Officer, Thamane will advise the CEDA Board of Directors on all policy matters and take responsibility for the implementation of CEDA policies and the execution of all Board resolutions.

He will also ensure the achievement of the strategic objectives and mandate of CEDA through sound management practices.

The Board Chairman of CEDA, Lucas Gakale, indicated that in working with Thamane over the past twelve months when Thamane was the Deputy CEO (Operations), he considers him the right choice for the position of Chief Executive Officer of CEDA.

'Thabo is a very articulate and analytical professional who possesses the right qualities of good decision-making, something I consider very crucial in the leadership of any organisation, especially with a large and varied clientele like CEDA's.

'We, as the Board, look forward to working with Thabo to build on the achievements of the past and deal with the entrepreneurial development challenges of the nation. We wish him well in his new assignment at CEDA,' said Gakale.

'I pledge to lead CEDA with the principles of respect, dignity, commitment and transparency.  'Further, I pledge to continue building the public confidence and ensure that CEDA becomes even more accessible to Batswana from all corners of the country,' Thamane said.
