Chiefs still confident of title

Nare left Chiefs unceremoniously last week to join rivals, Township Rollers but Mogomotsi said the development would not affect their plans.  As far as he is concerned, Nare was just an assistant coach who is still learning the ropes.

Chiefs has not played a league game after the 4-1 humiliation by another title chasing side, ECCO City Greens about two weeks ago.  This was the second time that the Francistown side defeated Magosi and dented their title chances. However, Mogomotsi feels they are still very much in the running. He said the embarrassing defeat is a wake up call.

'We still have up to 10 games to go,' he said. Mogomotsi insists that the championship race is still wide open. Currently, the marauding Francistown side, ECCO City is leading the log with 47 points followed by BDF XI with 39 and Chiefs with 37. Chiefs remain the only soccer giant not to win any major cup.

But Mogomotsi said this is going to change this season because they still stand a good chance of winning the league. 'We are still in the race until it goes down to the wire,' he said. He added that they are going to treat each and every game as a cup final.  'We are going to play with one purpose,' he said. He warned ECCO City that they must not feel they have already clinched the title.

He said mathematically, even the club in fourth position still stands a good chance of winning the league. Indeed the side that Mogomotsi fears most is BDF XI because of its experience in the championship race.

'BDF XI stands a good chance,' he said adding that ECCO should not take things for granted as the championship might slip through their fingers when least expected. He warned that TASC once had a healthy lead only to be overtaken and edged out in the title race by BDF XI.

Chiefs were not playing last weekend because it had a number of players in the Under-23 squad and the Zebras. Mogomotsi dismissed reports of infighting in the Magosi camp. After starting the league on a high note, Chiefs are becoming inconsistent and putting their once realistic title hopes in jeopardy.
